Overview
Boston Heart Lab is a healthcare company that provides cardiovascular disease (CVD) management. Through our combination of proprietary lipid testing capability, sophisticated tools, advanced therapy guidelines, and patient support services, we are providing physicians, patients, and pharmaceutical companies with viable disease management. Unlike other lipid testing companies that are focused on the primary screening market for CVD, our proprietary testing technology allows for the ongoing monitoring of a patient’s disease and precise determination of the most appropriate pharmaceutical alternatives. We can provide unique, personalized treatment options to patients with dyslipidemia to determine the efficacy of lipid adjusting drugs in most cases within the first 6 weeks of treatment. Competing methods usually need 6 months.

It has long been believed that a LDL level below 160mg/dL and a HDL level above 40mg/dL in men and 50mg/dL in women are good predictors for a healthy heart. However, about 60% of apparently healthy people with these normal lipid levels have sub lethal atherosclerosis, which slowly develops and can cause CHD in the future. In addition to LDL and HDL levels, research has shown that the composition of particles in the HDL measurement is a highly effective predictor. Boston Heart Lab was founded on the research on lipoprotein metabolism by Drs. Schaefer and Asztalos for prediction of how these particles, and many other related factors, influence coronary heart disease (CHD)
In the US market, only Boston Heart Lab offers the direct measurement of lipoprotein particle profiles, including high density lipoprotein (HDL) subpopulations, direct small dense (low density lipoprotein) LDL cholesterol, lipoprotein (a) or Lp(a) cholesterol, as well as measures of bodily cholesterol production (plasma lathosterol and desmosterol) and cholesterol absorption (campesterol and beta-sitosterol).
Boston Heart Laboratory also is the only laboratory to offer measures of glycated albumin, a direct measurement of impaired glucose metabolism even in apparently healthy subjects. These measures together have been shown to be far more powerful at CHD-risk prediction than traditional measures, which include HDL cholesterol, calculated LDL-cholesterol, and fasting glucose levels.
To map the underlying mechanism for the patient’s CHD risk, Boston Heart Lab offers:
 |
The most complete, individualized CHD-risk assessment to date, using state-of-the-art, proprietary testing developed by Boston Heart Lab for established and emerging risk factors. For list of tests click here |
 |
The most complete, individualized insight into genetic and metabolic bases of cardiovascular health therapy options (lifestyle and/or pharmacological) to prevent or manage CHD based on your individual profile. |
Boston Heart Lab can monitor the short- and long-term impact and effectiveness of therapies used in CHD-risk reduction on an individual basis. Our proprietary technology allows us to monitor drug effectiveness with a higher accuracy and speed than traditional tests.
