Why are Boston Heart Lab's Tests Better?

A standard lipid panel test offered by almost any lab is fine for giving you the basics. While other labs often simply calculate the cholesterol values, we measure these directly. We use methods that directly measure different fat particles (lipoprotein fractions). These measures are very precise. Boston Heart Lab also measures small dense LDL, Lp(a), and apoB directly (specific particles that carry fat in the blood). We also tell you which apoE variant you have. Apo E is a form of “zip code” present on most lipid particles that directs the particle to their destination. Some apoE variants have good properties, while others do not.

With Boston Heart Lab's test results, the physician can decide on personalized treatment options and evaluate the efficiency of lipid adjusting drugs within six weeks of treatment.

Boston Heart HDL MapTM
Boston Heart Lab is the first and only laboratory to use two-dimensional gel-electrophoresis technology for analysis of the HDL cholesterol sub particle composition.  This test, known as Boston Heart HDL MapTM, predicts CHD risk more effectively than the commonly used general lipid panel. HDL particle subclass studies, based on samples from the Framingham study, VA-HIT and HATS, have identified specific HDL particle populations as being more anti- atherogenic than others. For example, increasing the levels if the large alpha-1 HDL, with combination therapy, resulted in significant CVD risk reduction and less stenosis progression. The Boston Heart HDL MapTM from Boston Heart Lab also helps to identify an array of metabolic disorders affecting HDL levels and CVD.

Boston Heart HDL MapTM is a specific test for the good cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). For the first time this test is available to the public, and only by Boston Heart Lab. This test is superior to all other HDL tests for a number of reasons.

Cholesterol Balance Test
Boston Heart Lab is also the first and only laboratory to analyze plasma sterols to assess a patient’s cholesterol synthesis and absorption status. With this information at hand, the physician can assess the value of ongoing, or suggested, strategies for lowering lipids as some compounds affect absorption, synthesis or both.
Did you know that you might be a hyper producer of cholesterol? You may be absorbing more cholesterol from your diet than the average person. Traditional treatment may not work that well for you.

Direct Cholesterol Measures
When it comes to analyzing cholesterol variables like LDL, small dense LDL and Lp(a), Boston Heart Lab in utilizes direct measurements. These are more precise than the calculated values used by most other laboratories.
